Thank you for your interest.
A few things to look into for photo shoots:
Guardian: I usually work on my own and if I bring an assistant, I will let you know ahead of time. A parent or guardian must always be there at all times, to assist me and ensure of the child’s safety because most of the time, I’ll be looking though the lens and … it looks quite different!!
Location: For babies, I would recommend that this be taken in their home. Babies are more comfortable this way and will just ‘be’. That’s the best time to take photos.
For toddlers, the best place is outdoors during play time. Don’t make this session a ‘big deal’, try to keep to a usual routine.
Time: Are you available during working hours? The best time to choose is when your baby has just had her nap and during the longest waking gap before her next nap. I recommend taking photos at your home where your baby will be comfortable to just ‘be’.
Clothes: The best clothing is plain white. It provides the best contrast. If not, anything with light colors and no jarring patterns. Try to avoid t-shirts with letters or logos.
Toys: If you have a new toy for the shoot, it will make session memorable! Otherwise, keep aside one of her favorite toys now and hide it. Take it out when we do the photoshoot!
My photo philosophy: I’m not a fan of posed photography, so the odd imperfections are priceless to me! Although I will probably place your baby in an area or location where the background will either add to the photo or for best lighting. For more on this, refer to the page on My photo philosophy.
ONE MORE THING…
Before the photo shoot, I will also need the parent/guardian to sign a model release form for your online gallery, my blog etc, a permission to take photos form and a liability form. Yeah I know, its all bureaucratic and stuff but we like to grow this little business properly. Just like babies, a good foundation goes a long long way. Also, please read through our Child Protection Policy. We had a thought through and we thought as parents, we would like to make sure ourselves that the photographer knows what they are doing.
Cheers!!
