My photo philosophy

This page is about how I do my photography…

First, what I do is closer to photo artistry then photography. I take a photo and work on it, and I work on it a lot. Hence I’m rather proficient in Photoshop which is really my digital lab tucked in a corner of my home atop a rubber wood desk that I am very fond of. I fuss on colours so my monitor is colour calibrated with a Spyder, in fact, I fuss on a lot of things including the color of the eyes, the shades of the shadows, the framing of the photo, the sharpness, the stories behind it. I was told this is photo artistry because I take a photo and ‘paint’ it with my own style versus shooting a photo with a certain style. Its a fine line but what ever it is, its fine with me, in fact a photo artist sounds … rather cool. LOL

Second, I do not take studio posed photos. I believe in capturing the childrens’ personality, the unguarded moment when a posed and controlled laugh or smile becomes a natural one.  When a child’s chair suddenly turns into a horse or a father’s face into clay and she starts shaping it with her hands, that’s the magic moment. I would ask for a couple of poses but I would usually just let the child be after placing him or her there and start clicking. I take bursts of photos but end up working on only a few because I’m looking for that unguarded moment when we connect, when she is aware that I am there, yet still simply be herself.

Third, I come to you at your child’s timing, when she’s awake and alert and herself. Why? Because its about the children. Its not about me. I do every thing with a lot of care and intimacy, I look and scrutinize every detail, every grain and if I am not satisfied, I will do a second photoshoot because things happen like maybe I lost that natural light that I was relying on and failed to realize it in time. Or simply, things happen because I’m not perfect. I also believe in shooting in an environment that is familiar to the child so a little of this  is captured in the background or foreground. I find that sometimes, we forget that much of the child’s growing up life is about the place and the little things.

I can tell you a lot more about how I do it and why but I think these are the 3 things that more or less differentiates me from the others around here. There are other photographers with different philosophies and studio based photographers which can capture the perfect photo for you with a blemish erased or a pretty dress, or even yourselves with a digital camera but this is what I do and I love doing it which is why I’m doing this in the first place! My prices are not meant to complete with others or to gain too much, its just what I need to keep me going so I be the best I could be in this.

I’ve put together a few photo packages that will make things a little easy for you. Of course I’ll do photography not based on these packages but its a start and its something you can thinking about. So read on in the photo packages page.
